Every knock we take in life tears our self esteem down little by little, causing us to slip deeper and deeper into a depressive and state of low self esteem. It’s important that we work daily on self love and improving our self esteem. I thought I’d share 3 things with you that helped me to achieve growth in this area.

1. Affirmations

It’s important to be saying good things to ourselves. The more we say it, the more we believe it. I found various positive affirmations online to replace all the negative things I say to myself when I look in the mirror.

Instead of “I am.. Not good at anything” or “I am a failure” say “I am successful” or “I have achieved alot in my life”. Replace what you say after “I am..” with something positive.

2. Serve someone

This was a big one for my self esteem. I found that when I took the focus off of myself and onto someone else, I felt better about myself too. I felt like I was serving a purpose, which gave my self esteem a nice boost.

Look for opportunities every day to do something selfless for someone else. If you are not in a financial position to help someone in need, that’s OK, it doesn’t have to cost money. Kindness is free. A smile, a hug, a compliment, a prayer is all an act of kindness too and doesn’t even take 5 minutes of your time.

3. Lose Toxic People

Surrounding ourselves with negative people, will only push us further into a negative state and further into depression as we hear only negative talk about and around us. It’s important to surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself.

That doesn’t mean you need to be rude about it, you can just slowly move towards inviting more positive people to spend your time with. Pray for those who are negatively speaking of you.

Rebuilding your self esteem is a work in progress and won’t happen overnight, but everyday you choose to work on it is a day closer to feeling whole again.
